Help Walter finish his Post-graduate Diploma in Legal Practice
Walter Aguma needs $8,950 to pay for his post-graduate diploma in legal practise.
Collaborative Social Change is excited to introduce you to Walter Aguma, a member of our network and a hard-working young man who is keen on serving his community and country, Uganda. Walter met Saghar Birjandian, Founder of CSC, during Saghar’s doctoral research in Uganda. Walter provided much needed cultural, technical, and logistical support to Saghar so that she could conduct her fieldwork in Lango in a good way. As Saghar observed Walter’s brilliant mind at work and his genuine connections and standing with diverse communities, she became committed to helping him finish his legal studies.
Walter successfully completed his Bachelor of Law on 05 May 2024 at the Islamic University in Uganda, maintaining high academic standing for the entirety of his studies. The last step in Walter’s education to be able to practice law in Uganda is to complete a Post-graduate Diploma in Legal Practise at Uganda’s Law Development Centre. Out of 1,260 applicants to the Postgraduate Program, Walter was one of 597 to receive an offer letter for admission in October 2024. However, to ensure Walter has all the funds required to complete the Program, he has asked to defer his acceptance until October 2025.
The Post-graduate Diploma is indeed demanding and requires that all expenses are covered so that Walter can focus on excelling in this last step to launch his legal career. We are looking to raise to $8,950.00 USD (roughly equivalent to 33,000,000 UGX (Uganda Shillings), which the total amount required for school fees, supplies, and some living costs. A detailed breakdown of all costs included in our target amount is attached below for your reference.
Upon completion of his Post-graduate Diploma, Walter plans to provide pro bono legal services to the most marginalized individuals and groups in the country through a community-based organization he plans to launch. Walter’s track record in completing his studies with high academic standing and in completing the different tasks and projects at CSC, reinforce that he is indeed a person that will fulfil his commitments to complete his postgraduate studies and serve his community as soon as he is able to practice law.
To show appreciation, Walter will work with CSC to provide updates to well-wishers during his studies including information on his progress, academic standing in the program, and any other reflections he wishes to share.
Thank you very much for your consideration and support!
With love and appreciation,
CSC
